Inspiration -
This collection was inspired by a gift from one of my most favorite friends Brandt who gave me a vintage metal printing block plate with a horse image. What captivated me was the subtle image that came alive when it reflected the light beautifully. I also appreciated the straight-forward presentation of the metal plate mounted on a block of wood.
Technique -
As I explored possibilities to duplicate this effect I found a source that could create a similar effect by inkjet printing high-contrast black and white fine art photographs with UV cured inks on brushed metallic silver and gold rigid DiBond panels that are 1/8" thick.
This video demonstrates how this process exquisitely imitates what fascinated me about the vintage metal printing block plate. It illustrates how dynamically light reflects off my fine art photograph printed on a Dibond panel as it changes throughout the day and as a viewer moves within a space.
My process -
Selecting the right photos
The process begins by choosing photographs that can be transformed into intriguing high-contrast black and white images that will be able to create a beautiful interplay with light.

Evaluate 8" x 12" proofs
The next step is to get 8" x 12" proofs. What I have realized is that not all images work successfully in this process. These proofs help to see which images are most successful by evaluating the contrast, exposure and most importantly the reflectivity.
While these proofs might be final or might need further adjustments, all are available for sale. They are a perfect size that displays well anywhere.

Consider unique display possibilities
As I evaluate the proofs I also envision the possibilities each might have by asking myself questions like...

What if I reverse the photograph
and display both side by side?
The same photograph is also printed reversed. Each image is printed on a silver DiBond panel.

What if I take two similar photographs with slight differences and print one in silver and one in gold?
Two photographs displayed side-by-side. One is printed on a silver DiBond panel and the other is printed on a gold DiBond panel.

What if I divide the photograph and
print half in silver and half in gold?
One photograph is divided into two images.
One image is printed on a silver DiBond panel, the other image is printed on a gold DiBond panel.
Select limited edition enlargements
I then select my favorites for limited edition enlargements.
Available in silver and gold brushed metallic DiBond panels in
sizes 20" x 30", 24" x 36", 30" x 45", 36" x 54", 40" x 60".

The first 30" x 50" enlargement I had printed on gold Dibond was during COVID to place behind me for my video conference background. This image I took in Barcelona and because of the strong graphic imagery it worked successfully as a high contrast photograph.

After that first image I had the second
30" x 50" enlargement printed on silver Dibond. This is a photograph I took of
my horse Amigo.
In both enlargements I love the high contrast photographs and most importantly the subtle sheen and glistening effect they create hanging in my studio.
Presentation Possibilitie

No Frames -
The presentation of these panels is also unique. Since each panel is rigid and 1/8" thick, no frame is needed.
The small proofs can simply sit on a shelf leaned against a wall. And the large pieces can easily be hung on a wall without a frame for a minimal presentation.

Floating Frames -
Alternatively all sizes look great with a floating frame.
Lights -
Additionally the panels can be mounted with a light source mounted behind the panel to illuminate the edges of the panel or illuminating the space between the image and the floating frame.
The Final Presentation
What I love most is seeing one of my metallic fine art photographs showcased in a space as it reflects the light in the ambiance of its surroundings, adding a subtle sheen and a glistening accent that enhances any interior space.

Kim is a fabulously innovative creative! Her technique and attention to detail is profound. The subtle elegance of these photographs inspire an ethereal presence!
These photographs are beautiful and the options for printing them on unique papers and especially the metallics elevate the beauty and reflections of the horses !
It appears there are size options and these would look amazing in the home or in a barn office gallery!
